Le Fleur Papillons is a small breeder located in Louisiana, breeding quality Papillons for over 15 years. Our goal has been to provide healthy, standard AKC and FCI Papillons that can compete in all classes. We only have 1-2 litters per year due to our pack size. Keeping a small pack allows us to care and love these beautiful dogs the way they are meant to cared for.
Whether you are looking for a show, agility, or service dog, a Le Fleur Papillon can achieve all the goals set for them. Our lines offer fringe, athleticism, intelligence, and most of all character! Our goal is to keep this beautiful, historical breed alive and well for many more centuries to come.
We are also a Non-Kennel Breeder. This means we do not keep our Papillons kenneled or kept in a room to “keep their fringe long” or “keep them peaceful” - like so many other Papillon breeders do. Our dogs are with us wherever we go – even on vacation! They enjoy going out to eat, going to stores, and relaxing with us at home. It is our belief that Papillons need interaction and attention to be mentally sound and well-rounded dogs. There is no Papillon that we have met that cannot be rehabilitated by a healthy pack and lifestyle.
Over the years, we have taken on rescues and rehabilitated dogs for people that were struggling to make sense of a troubled Papillon. While we do enjoy doing this, Papillons are so rarely in bad situations, that we do not get rescues or troubled dogs very much anymore. That is why we adore this breed – everyone loves them and they are very good companion animals. They are rarely to be seen in distress, physical ailment or abuse on the scale other breeds are.
The Le Fleur Home
Our home sits on 6 acres, surrounded by pine tree forests and blue sky. We have a wrap around porch that encompasses our whole home. This is where most of our time is spent and life is lived. The Papillons love to run and play here while getting out of the hot Louisiana sun. In the evenings, we take walks through the tall piney woods and everyone gets to stretch their legs. Which all is fun and games until someone (or all!) need a bath! Then into the water they go.
Each Papillon has a day of the week that they get groomed, clipped and pampered. They also have rule over the roost and other pets. Running our farm with horses, chicken, rabbits, and children. They do not explore or wander, but make wonderful over-seers to all the daily chores. Always sticking by their family’s side and being forever faithful.
Life here is exceptional and we are blessed to have it.
How Are The Puppies Raised?
0-4 Weeks
All of our puppies are whelped in our home, in safe whelping boats that contain rounded sides. The puppies and the dam are then kept in a quiet room until they are about 4-5 weeks old, depending on their progression. This is when we have minimal exposure to everything in the house. We clean the pen, let the dam out, and feed and water her multiple times per day. We handle the puppies and let them smell our scent, but that is all within this fragile state.
5-8 Weeks
Once they have progressed physically, we bring them into the main living area of our home. In this space, they are able to socialize and see daily life. The puppies learn to socialize through a pen fencing and see how their dam interacts with the other Papillons in the house. So much personality growth goes on within this time frame, so it is essential they get exposure and are taught to not be afraid.
8-12 Weeks
From the time that they get their first puppy shots, they are able to get out and explore! We also start potty training at this point. The puppies get out and play in the house, with other dogs, cats, and children. You can also come an visit any time after the puppy's shots!
